Toyota Cresta X70 Advertising Catalog + Accessory List
In 1984, the second-generation Toyota Cresta rolled off the assembly line, embodying both lounge-like qualities that allowed owners to relieve fatigue on their way home after a long day with velvety comfort and smooth ride of adjustable suspension, as well as sporty tendencies easily unleashed by pressing several buttons and flooring it if you are in an active driving mood, heading out for sunny weekends on the highway.

There were plenty of versions combining various parameters according to budget and buyer taste, while the options for additional equipment were even more numerous. Let's start with the top-tier model.
The most powerful version was considered to be“GT TwinTurbo”with a 2.0-liter engine equipped with two turbochargers (hence “Twin”, “Turbo”) and, at that time, air cooling—the much loved or hated 1G-GTEU engine.1 of 2The interior and equipment matched the image—relatively rigid but comfortable seats compared to other trims, a driver seat with wide adjustability range, almost sporty steering wheel design, turbo indicator on the dashboard (digital or analog display at customer's choice), and door panels with an interesting texture reminiscent of a potato sack.

Next was the version with the long name

, but it could not be said that it was “poorer” in any way compared to the turbo model as it only fell short in terms of engine and some suspension parameters which were naturally reinforced due to greater power. The engine—truly legendary, 'bosozoku' sounding, unparalleled two-liter twin-cam, atmospheric 1G-GEU. I believe there's no need to go into detail about this engine since everything has already been described countless times.1 of 2The interior of the “SuperLucent TwinCam 24” is considered the most luxurious and ‘rich’ (at least now) among all variants in the 71 body style.

The next item on the list is the most common version called «SuperLucent».
The power unit had a single-camshaft cylinder head and was one of the most reliable engines in the entire 1G series — 1G-EU. Automatic variants no longer featured modes for sport driving or slippery surface launch control, nor did they have rear ventilated brake discs which were missing from the higher trim level. The interior differed from the 'twin-cam' version with leather inserts on the side of the seats, which had one major flaw — a tendency to crack and tear severely, while the steering wheel was made of soft plastic that would peel off over time and squeak unpleasantly when gripped.

The cheapest trims came with the contradictory name «SuperDeluxe» and «SuperCustom». In addition to lower-quality trim, these versions had either a diesel engine (2.0L or even turbocharged 2.4L) or a carbureted 1S (1.8L) engine.
The interior with cloth seats was no longer filled with luxurious notes, the climate control system with vacuum controls and buttons was replaced by a simple cable-driven heater (which turned out to be reliable), 2DIN head units disappeared in favor of flat cassette players with compartments for small items, the steering wheel lost its charming wooden-plastic insert with 'Cresta' badge, and not all trims could boast electric windows, let alone electronic instrument panels or other conveniences.

So, these were all the available trim levels for pre- and post-restyling Toyota Cresta X70.
