Hello everyone!
I have been driving with a knocking engine for a year now and I finally decided to figure out what the problem is. I ordered a timing belt kit and a set of gaskets/seals that I will change during assembly. And here we go!
Now, some nuances that surprised me:
Firstly, everything is very easy to disassemble;
Secondly, the crankshaft pulley was difficult to unscrew but came off easily without a puller;
Thirdly, the water pump looks brand new (see photo), this is how Toyota SLLC coolant works. By the way, it's purple in color.
After assembly, I ran it in test mode. RPMs automatically went above 1500. This way, I flushed out the coolant. The oil pressure instantly rose. The engine knocked for only 0.5 seconds. Then silence. Let it run for 5 minutes. Stopped and started normally. Drove in different modes — everything is great. A week has passed — no issues.
So, the knocking problem was due to seized hydraulic tensioners (two of them). In general, after about 300,000 km mileage, the timing belt set is in perfect condition.
I poured in oil 0W-20 Titan SuperSyn D1.
BTW, I did all the work myself.
P. S.: Refilled with Toyota SLLC coolant. If it works fine, why replace it with some unknown product from a car store?
Good luck to everyone.
