And so I'm driving on my luxurious couch, feeling pretty cool, when suddenly the gears stop shifting. By means of simple manipulations (thankfully it's a manual transmission), I made it to the lift, and my favorite mechanic (though he prefers cars from other brands) took off the gearbox and it became clear that neither the clutch disc, flywheel, nor pressure plate had been replaced since manufacture or the previous owner was pretending to be a racer (probably forgetting that the clutch is an important part of a car, not an accessory to press with your foot for show).
In the end, only the clutch disc was available in stock, which was successfully replaced. As a result, there's now fairly substantial engagement. The pressure plate and flywheel were decided to be left until later 'maybe it will still work'.
