Well, I finally got around to dealing with this damned heater! In the previous entry, I mentioned trying to flush the cooling system with Hi-Giro flushing fluid. It had some effect but it wasn’t enough. Therefore, the decision was made to remove the heater core from the car and clean it thoroughly. While at it, I also decided to clean all the air ducts, replace all gaskets and sponges that crumbled when touched by hand. I won't go into detail about disassembling the interior as most of the useful information can be found in my friend awik80's blog. I will only show some pictures.

What is this? Located at the very bottom of the central console, it resembles a cup holder... but there are missing parts.

And what is this? Fragile porous material that was once a ring and fell out of the steering column area in pieces. Where exactly it was located I couldn’t determine.

Heater case, air recirculation flap.

View of the evaporator from the inside.

View of the evaporator from the outside...

The extraction operation was successful!

The radiator is sick... These pieces flew out of the supply tube when I flushed it with water. Can anyone guess how this junk got into it? Hint: — plastic fragments.

Foam sponges are in poor condition.
