Introduction
A lot has already been said about swapping in the global network. My story is quite standard and familiar to most — replacing a deceased 1G-FE with a 1JZ-GE VVTI from Mark Chase JZX-100.Since my ambitions are rather modest (home, family, work), I chose exactly the 1JZ-GE.What do I want to achieve? First and foremost, a reliable heart for my car, then confident dynamics, and only after that all sorts of 'because reasons'.
Having clearly presented the picture of this mission, I will try to describe the process.
Patient GX-81 CEPQK Toyota Cresta, restyled, 1990 model year, automatic transmission A42D*, instrument panel without a cable.
Donor JZX-100 Toyota Mark II, pre-restyled, 1997 model year, automatic transmission A340, optitron
I will clarify now —
1) Out of respect for the MASTER who will actively help in the electrical stage, I will not publish any details about rewiring and other proprietary techniques of the owner.
2) Any point in this description will be edited according to your well-reasoned comments / based on your experience.
3) With this text, I want to systematize a small amount of experience from guys who boldly dive into their race cars.
Let's go...
Chapter 1
What do you need ?
I perform mechanical work myself, therefore :
Location – garage with pit and crane for mounting and dismounting engine and automatic transmission
Tools – full set of tools + special equipment such as desoldering stations and other pullers if the engine requires specific maintenance
Swap kit – to transition from 1G-FE AT A42D* to 1JZ-GE VVTI AT A34x* you need –
1) Engine x10x body and its own mounts
2) Motor wiring harness – goes from under the hood to the brain (2 connectors) x10x3) Interior wiring harness – goes from the brain (2 connectors) x10x4) Brain x10x
5) Automatic transmission x10xi
6) Transmission tailshaft from A30-40 or A34x* with three-wire speed sensor — ONLY IN THE EVENT THAT THE ORIGINAL DASHBOARD IS KEPT, when installing an optitron the tailshaft remains from JZx100
7) Front part of propeller shaft from any of the following 81-series models with engines 1G-GE/GTE/GZE or 1JZ-GE/GTE or 7M-GE. In general, only those cars x8x where automatic transmissions A30-40 or A34x* were installed. It is needed for connection to your standard rear part.
This condition works with the standard reducer GX-81 at 7.5 inches
8) Radiator x10x or equivalent
9) Radiator hoses or equivalents
10) Connecting conduits from x10x for power steering and air conditioning and fuel
11) Subframe under engine JZX81, MH83 or modified GX81
12) Consumables only according to necessity and owner's preferences.
13) Transmission selector from x10x
14) Depending on the type of engine installation (in accordance with the longitudinal construction axis), it may be necessary to remove the standard viscous coupling with a fan. Therefore, it is advisable to consider acquiring electric fans + diffusers. Simple solutions: 1) Nissan Carlson from Avenirs, Maximas-Cefiros,
2) Mazda MPVs (V 2.5/2.3) and Attenzas — 6.
3) Chinese universal kits.
Any paired (2 pieces.) fans with working diameters of rotors from 36 cm and larger.
15) The gas pedal cable can remain the same as that from 1JO (just the extra length will need to be accommodated somewhere). I will install a gas cable from JZX-90 (naturally aspirated), which is the shortest in x8-x9-x10 series and fits well both on the pedal and throttle body.
16) Engine mounts from JZX-90 (the engine bolts attach them differently)
17) Intake pipe with filter box better from JZX-81. From x10x, intake won't fit. It's possible to leave the box from GX-81, but the elbow-pipe on the throttle body hose has a different diameter. Hence, it is necessary to find any elbow from x10x
